An armed man escaped with nothing to show for his efforts after a botched robbery attempt at the Stratosphere Casino early Wednesday morning.
The unidentified man entered the poker room at 12:45 a.m. with a gun and grabbed an unreported number of casino chips. After being confronted by a poker room employee, the man dropped the chips and ran with another person who police believe may be an accomplice.
Despite the presence of a weapon, no shots were fired and no injuries were reported. Las Vegas police are currently reviewing security video before releasing a description of the robber.
“The casino has all kinds of cameras,” said police officer Marcus Martin. “We’re hoping for something that identifies him.”
Last Decemeber, 29-year-old Anthony Carleo stole $1.5 million in casino chips from a Bellagio craps table after walking in with a gun and wearing a motorcycle helmet to hide his identity. He was caught two months later after trying to sell his chips to undercover agents.
In February, 45-year-old Steven Gao took $33,000 in chips from the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino at gunpoint, but he remains at large.
