The World Poker Tour is pulling into Florida for a major televised tournament for the first time in the nine-season history of the tour this week. The $10,000 no-limit hold’em WPT main event at the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown begins on Wednesday, April 27 and it will crown a champion on Monday, May 2 in Hollywood, Florida.
The Florida Senate and House voted to allow uncapped poker in the state one year ago and since then major poker tours have jumped on the possibilities presented by one of the best destination states in the country. The World Series of Poker Circuit tour hosted a tournament series in Florida at the Palm Beach Kennel Club in late February. The WPT will also host a Regional Series event at the Seminole Hard Rock in August and it will run from Aug. 19-22.
Players will begin with 30,000 in tournament chips in the main event on Wednesday and blinds begin at 50-100. Levels will run for 90 minutes and there will be a break after each level. Players can register for the tournament until the start of play on day 2. This is also the only U.S. WPT event that allows players to be 18+ years old.
Check back in at the end of play each evening for a recap of the tournament action at Card Player. Here is a look at the schedule for the event:
