Bellagio Kicks Off Five Star World Poker Classic With Position Poker TournamentFriday Event Will Feature $10,000 Overlay |

The Bellagio kicks off the Five Star World Poker Classic on Friday, May 6 with a noon no-limit hold’em tournament, but recreational players and pros alike are excited for a $500+$40 event that will start at 4:00 p.m.
The event will be the Las Vegas debut of Position Poker, a new variation on no-limit hold’em that rewards aggressive play. In Position Poker, there are two buttons in play. The game is dealt and the original button rotates normally, but the second button is given to the winner of the previous hand. That player will then have absolute position over the rest of the table and will be given the last option during each of the betting rounds.
In order to ensure the event is a success, Position Poker has decided to add $10,000 to the prize pool, creating a nice overlay for any interested players.
In February, Card Player was able to speak to ten-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Johnny Chan, who is a big supporter of the new game.
“It’s just like real estate, but instead of location, location, location, it’s position, position, position,” he said. “The game is designed for action junkies. A weak, tight player will be at a tremendous disadvantage, so you really have to open it up if you want to compete.”
The Five Star World Poker Classic will run for two weeks and will feature 21 events. The $25,000 World Poker Tour Championship will begin on May 14 and will be followed up by a $100,000 High Roller Championship on May 18.
