Malta-based online bookmaker room Betsson has acquired its competitor Betsafe in a deal worth at least €32.5 million and up to €60 million.
Betsson, whose online poker room lost 40 percent of its revenue in the first quarter of 2011, will acquire Betsafe’s online poker room as part of the deal. Both rooms are on the Ongame network.
The company said it will “…benefit from synergies that will materialize as the result of e.g. integration of platforms and supplier contracts.”
Pontus Lindwall, chief executive of Betsson, went on to say, "This deal will fuel our growth. We strengthen our position in the Nordic region as well as our organization when merging two profitable companies, each of which has proven its ability to gain market share in a highly competitive market environment.”
