PokerStars has added yet another solid poker player to its team of professionals. The online poker site announced that Humberto Brenes has joined Team PokerStars. Within the month, the site has signed Victor Ramdin, Barry Greenstein, and now Brenes.

"Humberto is the epitome of the competitive spirit and class that is Team PokerStars," said Nolan Dalla, Director of Communications for PokerStars.com. "He is a competitor who incites both a tremendous fear and respect from all players."

Brenes has won $3,597,586 on the tournament trail since he started playing tournaments in 1987. He's a fan favorite and always seems to enjoy himself, no matter how much cash is on the line.

According to PokerStars, he has been playing poker since the age of seven. He learned the game from his father in Costa Rica. He started his card playing career as a baccarat player in Bahamian casinos.

Brenes holds a college degree in industrial engineering from the University of Costa Rica and is a successful businessman, having owned the local Univision television station, a construction company, and a number of restaurants in the past.

He currently owns a peanut and nut company in Costa Rica and is known for his generosity and support of the local communities.

Known as the "Godfather of Costa Rican players," Brenes has earned two World Series of Poker bracelets and has placed in the money at more than 40 major tournaments.

In 2002, he won the Jack Binion World Poker Open championship. A year later he placed second at the L.A. Invitational and, in 2004, he placed second in the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic, followed by a third-place finish at the Foxwoods Poker Classic.

He is probably the most popular player in Costa Rica and all of Central America and, because of that, PokerStars also released a Spanish version of it announcement.

Brenes joins Greenstein, Ramdin, Isabelle Mercier, Joe Hachem, Chris Moneymaker, Luca Pagano, Vanessa Rousso, Bertrand Grospellier, Steve Paul-Ambrose, Wil Wheaton, John Duthie, Tom McEvoy, Lee Nelson, and Greg Raymer as Team PokerStars members.
