Online Poker: Ilari Sahamies Continues UpswingFinnish High-Stakes Grinder Puts in Another Solid Week |

After the fireworks of last week, the past seven days in the high-stakes online world have seen one of its stars continue the gradual journey from cash-game desolation.
Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies (known as Ziigmund on beleaguered Full Tilt Poker) was a participant in the week’s $100-$200 pot-limit Omaha spectacle on PokerStars. Sahamies tangled with the equally nefarious bankroll of Viktor “Isilidur1” Blom in their usual slew of six-figure pots.
The action from the duo’s most explosive confrontation started with Blom raising to $700 and Ronny “1-ronnyr3” Kaiser three-betting to $2,400 from the button. Rafi “refaelamit” Amit folded, and Sahamies called from the big blind. Blom four-bet to just $4,100, and Kaiser quickly made it $14,800. Sahamies, in the middle, called once again. Blom clicked in the additional $10,000, and the flop fell Q 6 3. Sahamies fired pot for about $45,000 with the 8 6 5 4. Blom shoved for just $5,000 more with the Q 9 8 7, and Kaiser stuck in the last $10,600 with a dry pair of aces.
Running it just once, Sahamies hit a third six on the turn, giving him a strangle hold on the hand. He held as the 2 landed on the river. Sahamies scooped the $156,000 pot and sat with more than $200,000 after busting his two opponents.
Combined with seven other pots over the week each worth about $100,000, Sahamies ended the stretch as one of the biggest winners, taking home about about $250,000 in profits. Sahamies has been on a roller coaster over the past month, but managed to secure a very profitable August, as he and Blom have been the catalysts on PokerStars, trading millions back and forth in intense heads-up and shorthanded pot-limit Omaha sessions. Despite the upswing, Sahamies is still down more than $600,000 across all sites this year.
