Early Saturday morning Bobby Oboodi won the 2011 Borgata Poker Open after outlasting a record World Poker Tour field of 1,313 entrants. He took home a whopping $922,441 for the win in the $3,500 buy-in event.
Oboodi cruised through the final table, never being all in for his tournament life. Despite losing the chip lead early in heads-up play with Jin Hwang, Oboodi, who was also experiencing his first ever WPT cash, played tough. Hwang eventually saw himself all in with the K J, on a 7 6 6 J board. Oboodi had him in bad shape holding the Q 2. The river bricked for Hwang, and Oboodi was the champion.
Oboodi captured the nearly $1-million prize to go along with a WPT Champions trophy, a silver WPT card protector, and a $25,500 entry into the season-ending WPT Championship at Bellagio in May.
The tail end of the tournament was a tough one for all the competitors. The final table included Fred Goldberg and Darren Elias, while notable pros Doug Kim, Will Failla, and Matt Glantz barely missed out on the six-handed affair.
Here are the final results:
1. Bobby Oboodi — $922,441
2. Jin Hwang — $554,303
3. Daniel Buzgon — $335,433
4. Fred Goldberg — $280,925
5. Darren Elias — $230,610
6. Ricky Hale — $186,585
