The European and American teams going head-to-head in the upcoming Caesars Cup have been announced. As team captains Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Phil Hellmuth picked their teams, it became clear the battle was going to be one of youth versus experience.

Team selection was vital this year as Europe had to hold on to the title won in 2009 due to the Euro team’s efforts under their Captain Annette Obrestad. The last time the two teams met, Europe beat Daniel Negreanu’s U.S. team 4-1. Following the selection this year, ElkY said “I am very confident in my team. We will show the Americas that 2009 was not an upset!”

The odds look stacked however with team Europe and its combined five WSOP gold bracelets staring down the Americas which has a whopping 39 WSOP bracelets and features the top three WSOP bracelet winners of all time. Will the younger generation win out however with its average age of 27 compared to the Americas average age of 51?

ElkY’s team is made up of Jake Cody, Gus Hansen, Dario Minieri, and Max Lykov while Hellmuth’s team consists of Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, and Huck Seed.

Hellmuth said jokingly, “These idiot Northern Europeans think they know everything about the game of poker. Well, we plan to show them that decades of experience are much more valuable than clicking a mouse while sitting in your pajamas. In all seriousness, we look forward to the challenge and the opportunity to return the Caesars Cup to American soil.”

The Caesars Cup is part of this year’s World Series of Poker Europe which runs from Oct. 7 to 20 at the Hôtel Majestic Barrière in Cannes, France. The Cup takes place on Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.. The no-limit hold’em event features partner and heads-up formats and points will be awarded for each victory. The first team to three points will be crowned champions.
