The International Federation of Poker hosts the Nations Cup tomorrow in London as part of the London Mind Sports Festival.
Twelve teams from countries such as the US, Germany, Ireland, UK, Spain, Holland, Japan, Australia, Denmark as well as a team from online gaming giant Zynga will participate in duplicate poker.
According to the IPF, “Duplicate poker removes the element of luck and conforms more to a truly sporting occasion. Rather than competing against those at their table, duplicate poker pitches players against opponents dealt exactly the same cards in exactly the same position on neighboring tables.
“With all players in a particular seat given the same allocation of cards the only determining factor in the result of the tournament is how skilfully each player uses them."
Participating players include Barry Greenstein, Gus Hansen, Padraig Parkinson, Antonio Esfandiari, Vanessa Selbst, Sam Trickett, Sam Holden, Eoghan O’Dea, Liv Boeree, Andy Black, Marcel Luske, David Benyamine, Fabrice Soullier, Tony G and Sebastian Ruthenberg.
Following on from the Nations Cup is the IFP World Championship which will comprise 130 of the world’s best known and talented players vying for the $250,000 top prize from a prize pool of $500,000.
Known as “The Table”, this event will be filmed for TV broadcast worldwide.
