Coca got into the main event by winning CardPlayer.com's freeroll championship in December. The monthly freerolls were sponsored by Bodog.com. Readers earned points by playing in the freerolls, and the top 100 point earners played in the championship in December. Coca won it, and if he lasts long enough on Friday, he'll cash. The top prize will be $12 million.
Like day 1, he went through the whole day yesterday without having any big-name players sitting at his table. He sits at around 60,000 chips, which puts him a little bot below average. That's about what he started day 2A with.
"I had a very rough run of cards [yesterday]," Coca said.
Every time he picked up a nice pot, he said, two hands later he'd be in the same position. He also had a guy at his table with more than 200,000 chips.Yesterday marked a week in Vegas with his wife Beth and his friends. Not only did he get to attend the Bodog.net, Ultimate Bet, and Doyle's Room parties, he said he won about $2,500 playing blackjack.
The party started earlier this year at the CardPlayer.com Player of the Year gala in Los Angeles. Coca got to join many of the most talented and famous poker players at the gala, and even was brought on stage to receive his award from Card Player CEO and owner Barry Shulman for winning the freeroll.
Coca manages a family business that does promotional embroidery and silk screening in Colorado, but someone's going to have to step up there and do his duties. He has today and tomorrow off - today day 2B plays, and the remaining players all have off Thursday - and will begin play again Friday.
A Denver Broncos fan, he hasn't shaved and is sporting the early stages of a "Jake Plummer" beard. If all goes well, he might be looking like Grizzly Adams next week.
He also had to do something that was pure pleasure after yesterday's play ended. He had to cancel his flight out of town.
