It’s that time of year when people make lists of all the things they kept meaning to get around to in years gone by. Social media is full of chatter about best memories from 2011, mistakes made, lessons learned, and great expectations for the year that lies ahead.
Over the festive season and into the new year, Card Player has been asking poker players from all over the world about their memories of 2011 and their wishes for 2012. With nine career titles and more than 100 cashes, Anton Wigg has seen a constant stream of healthy results from both online and live arenas in just a few short years. Well-liked on the live circuit, the Swede became a well-known face when he made international headlines for taking down the European Poker Tour Copenhagen main event in 2010.
Rebecca McAdam: How was your 2011?
Anton Wigg: Loads of ups and loads of downs, but all-in-all a great year and I’m happy to say that I managed the downs pretty well.
RM: What were you most proud of?
AW: That I’ve grown a lot as a person on all levels.
RM: What was your best memory of the year – in/outside the poker world?
AW: Going backpacking/surfing by myself for three weeks after the Aussie Millions was a great experience.
RM: Did you learn anything this year?
AW: To see things more from other people’s perspective. The importance of having a positive attitude and to appreciate my friends more.
RM: Where was the best place you traveled to in 2011?
AW: Without a doubt, Byron Bay on the Australian East Coast.
RM: Who most impressed you this year in poker or who do you think had a fantastic year?
AW: Hard not to say Jason Mercier here. He is a very hard worker and a great face for poker. Keep it up!
RM: What is your ideal way to spend Christmas?
AW: With family and friends. This year I spent it abroad with my sister, since it’s one of the few times a year she can take some time off from school.
RM: What were your New Year’s eve plans?
AW: Dancing all night at some beach at Bali.
RM: What would be an ideal present to give to you?
AW: A hug and all the things you think is positive about me would be what makes me happy.
RM: What are your poker plans for 2012?
AW: Not sure yet, but chasing that illusive second EPT title is obviously on the to-do list. Also doing a good job as an ambassador for Svenska Spel and to try to do my part in taking Swedish poker forward.
RM: What are your hopes for the New Year?
AW: That my family and friends are well and happy.
