It’s back to work and back to the felt for most and kick-starting the new poker year is the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and World Poker Tour Ireland. Along with the WPT come many well-known professionals including poker player and presenter Kara Scott.

Scott is next to take to the stand to tell us all about her year and her hopes and plans for 2012. The lovely Canadian is on the hunt for a title – will she do one better than her last deep run in Dublin, and take down the WPT Ireland? She certainly hopes so…

Rebecca McAdam: How was your 2011?

Kara Scott: It was a really strange year but also a fantastic one. It has been a year of extremes for sure, but ultimately one that I’ll look back on with a lot of fondness. I spent a lot of the year travelling and actually had five months on the road at one point, living out of a suitcase (or three)! That was a pretty big learning experience for me.

RM: What were you most proud of?

KS: The highlight of my year was working on the ESPN live broadcast at the WSOP with such an incredible crew of people. That’s a job I never really thought I’d have a chance of doing and it was definitely a “pinch me” moment.

RM: Did you learn anything this year about your game and/or about yourself?

KS: I’ve always been a wanderer but this year reaffirmed that for me. I really love having friends all over the world and places to visit and I learned that I’m not so good at staying in one place for too long. In terms of poker, I definitely learned that the less I play, the worse I play! Not putting the hours in online definitely made my game suffer.

RM: Where was the best place you traveled to in 2011?

KS: I absolutely loved going to WPT Malta and had a pretty amazing time there with my friends. I stayed up later, went out more, and danced far more than I have in a very long time. Also, it was warm and I do love the warm!

RM: What is your ideal way to spend Christmas?

KS: Surrounded by friends and family. I wish that I could gather up all the people I love from England, Canada, and the U.S. and put them in one great big cabin to celebrate all together with lots of food and good wine. That is my idea of perfection.

RM: What were your New Year’s eve/New Year’s day plans?

KS: I was in England for New Year’s this year, staying with one of my oldest and dearest friends in the world. He’s an incredibly talented musician/composer and was playing at a party over NYE so I was there hanging out with my friends and relaxing. New Year’s day would no doubt be spent with a wee hangover followed by a great roast dinner at my friend Tom’s pub in Brighton, The Constant Service.

RM: What would be an ideal present to give to you?

KS: I love little things that I can take with me while I travel, to remind me of the people I love. One of my best friends bought me earrings, and someone else managed to sneak a really thoughtful present into my suitcase before I left Santa Barbara. I’m a very sentimental person so anything heartfelt makes me melt.

RM: What are your poker plans for 2012?

I’ll be starting off the year with (hopefully) a win at WPT Dublin! I’ve got a fair amount of poker planned for the first couple of months while I travel through Europe, including the Euro Finals of Poker in Paris, EPT Deauville, and WPT Venice.

I’ll be continuing my work with Party Poker as their ambassador at poker events and hosting their TV content and am looking forward to filming the Party Poker Premier League!

RM: What are your hopes for the New Year?

KS: I hope to find a little bit more stability this year, maybe even travelling just a little bit less! I really love my life though so I would be very happy if things just ticked along they way they are now.

RM: Who most impressed you this year in poker?

KS: Yevgeniy Timoshenko is just really impressive, I think. Watching him play and come second in the 25k WSOP Heads-Up Championship and seeing him play on a variety of TV games – I love observing him make these really involved decisions and big folds. Dude is talented!
