The World Poker Tour has made its way to Ireland’s capital city for the first time and main-event action kicks off at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin today. The €2,500 (10% withheld) main event will run until Jan. 8 when it will crown the stop’s first champion.

Players sit down today to 30,000 in chips and 60-minute levels but registration is open until 9.30 p.m. (local time) for all those late-comers. The final table kicks off on Sunday at 3 p.m. but between now and then there is plenty of side action to interest those who missed out on the main or simply busted out earlier than hoped.

The winner of the main event will be awarded with a $25,500 seat for the WPT World Championship, the first-place prize money, and lifetime bragging rights.

The main tour’s debut in Ireland will also feature the Irish Poker Championships, which were previously held annually in Galway in early January.
