The Las Vegas StripThe Associated Press reported Tuesday that a group in Nevada is looking to push an initiative to raise the state’s 6.75 percent tax on gaming revenue.

The group is seeking to raise the rate to 9 percent for casinos that take in more than $250,000 per month.

The casino industry has already fired back.

“This initiative represents a 33 percent tax increase on the gaming industry, which would be reckless and irresponsible,” Virginia Valentine, president of Nevada Resort Association, said in an email to the AP. “We are currently reviewing the language. If this effort is indeed legitimate, we will oppose it vigorously.”

Nevada has the lowest tax rate on gaming revenue in the nation. For tax rates in other states, check out the American Gaming Association’s resource page.
