The World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at the Palm Beach Kennel Club’s record-breaking two-week run has come to a conclusion, with the WSOP Circuit main event coming to an end on Monday.
The main event began days ago, with 778 players posting the $1,600 buy-in to build a $1,131,990 prize pool, with attendance up slightly over last year’s 742 entries. In the end, the last man standing was Canadian Jim Harnden, who was awarded the $226,395 first prize, 912 Card Player Player of the Year points and his first gold WSOP Circuit ring.
Harnden is a contractor from Cobourg, Ontario who is currently taking time off to travel North America, stopping along the way to play poker. This stop proved to be particularly lucrative, with the victory earning him not only the title and six-figure payday, but also entry into the WSOP Circuit National Championship in Las Vegas later this year.
The final table, like many these days, was mostly populated by young twenty-somethings. Despite some people’s assertion that poker is becoming a young man’s game, the 58-year-old Harnden ended up heads-up with 44-year-old Rob Williamson, the two men leaving their younger counterparts in the dust.
In the end, Harnden three-bet all-in with KQ and was called by Williamson’s AK. The flop brought the Q107, giving Harnden a pair of queens to take the lead. The 6 turn and the 8 river changed nothing, securing the title and the money for Harnden.
