Iowa Lawmaker Says Online Poker Bill Won't PassSenate File 2275 Hits Legislature on Monday |

In an op-ed in the Cherokee Chronicle Times, Iowa Rep. Dan Huseman (R-Aurelia) said that he doesn’t see an intrastate online gaming bill passing.
He wrote that a poll “showed that 70 percent of Iowans are opposed to legalizing [online] gambling, yet the Senate is moving a bill forward to do just that. If it comes over to the House, I do not believe it would pass. But if it did, it would not have my support.”
A poll from the Des Moines Register found the figures.
Senate File 2275, formerly Senate Study Bill 3164, would authorize existing gaming licensees to operate Internet poker. The new version was introduced on Monday and placed on the calendar.
The online poker bill existed previously as a means to study the potential industry. In late 2011, Iowa released findings on how gaming in cyberspace could financially impact the state.
The last vote on the measure was last week. Lawmakers sent it deeper into the legislature by an 11-4 margin, the Globe Gazette reported.
