Nine Major Poker Tournaments for Players Over Next Four Months

The sun has hardly set on the 2006 version of the Word Series of Poker and right away poker pros have to saddle up and hit the tournament trail again.

In fact, the WSOP's main event wasn't even finished when the $10,000 championship event for the Bellagio Cup II started. Despite - or more likely because of - the action across the street, it attracted 324 participants and its top prize, won by Shannon Shorr, topped $960,000.

That was just the starting gun.

After a summer break, the World Poker Tour starts filming again at Bicycle Casino's Legends of Poker. The LOP series started Aug. 3, and its championship is set to run from Aug. 26-30. CardPlayer.com's team of tournament reporters will be there to cover this always packed event. Their work can be found here.

That kicks off an extremely packed WPT schedule in which seven events will take place in the next four months. The schedule follows:

  • Borgata Poker Open, Sept. 15-19
  • Festa Al Lago at the Bellagio, Oct. 15-19
  • WPT Canadian Poker Open, Niagara Fallsview Casino, Oct. 22-24
  • North American Poker Championships, Niagara Fallsview Casino, Oct. 25-29
  • World Poker Finals at Foxwoods, Nov. 12-16
  • Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic, Dec. 14-19

Not to be outdone, the WSOP Circuit events start back up in a few weeks with the event at Harrah's Lake Tahoe Sept. 7, which is one of five Circuit events still scheduled for 2006. The rest are: Grand Tunica, Sept. 25; Caesars Indiana, Oct. 19; and Harrah's Atlantic City, Dec. 9.
