Dutchman Patrick de Koster has won the World Poker Tour National Series Marbella €1500 + €150 re-entry main event for the biggest live cash of his career, €150,000.
The 27-year-old topped a record-breaking field of 377, the largest field yet witnessed at a WPT National Series event. Hopes were high for a local hero with four Spanish finalists including well-respected pro Antonio “jonwayne69” Gonzales who entered the final table with the chip lead, but it was not to be as the Netherlands stepped into the spotlight, followed by the UK.
Twenty-eight-year-old British pro Peter Linton received €82,000 for his runner-up finish. His final hand came after a half an hour of heads-up play when his K-10 was beaten by de Koster’s A-K.
Here are the final results and payouts:
1. Patrick de Koster (Netherlands) €150,000
2. Peter Linton (UK) €82,000
3. Jose Carlos Lopez (Spain) €54,500
4. Philip Porter (Denmark) €38,800
5. Inma Marti Torres (Spain) €29,000
6. Antonio Gonzalez Miranda (Spain) €22,950
7. Jose Luis Plaza (Spain) €17,200
8. Daniel Keller (Germany) €12,850
After his win, De Koster said, “This is amazing. I’ve been thinking for some time that I have wanted to buy a small apartment and now I am able to do this. Even if I hadn’t won I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed this event – it was so friendly and brilliantly organized. The only regret is I didn’t get to see more of Marbella as I have always been in the casino. I cannot really complain though!”
