This Week In Tournament Poker -- April 30th - May 7th

In this Card Player weekly feature we look to provide our readers with a guide to some of the biggest poker events taking place in their area for the upcoming week. NEVADA

• The 2012 Five Star World Poker Classic (May 04, ‘12 – May 26, ’12) The Bellagio’s prestigious spring series, home of the $25,000 World Poker Tour Championship, is set to get underway this week. The series will play host to 34 events in total, with the first week’s highlights including a $1,080 no-limit hold’em event that begins on May 5th.

• The 2012 Grand Challenge Tournament Series (Apr 19, ‘12 – May 06, ’12) The MGM Grand enters the final week of its 30-event series with a nubmer of great events left to play. The final week’s highlight is undeniably the $1,600 no-limit hold’em main event that begins on May 1st and plays on until a winner is decided on May 3rd.

• The 2012 WSOP Warm-Up (May 04, ‘12 – May 20, ’12) Caesars Palace is getting players geared up for the World Series of Poker this summer with a 34-event warm-up series that kicks off this week. The highlight from this week is a "$340 Children of Courage charity no-limit hold’em event":http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tournaments/3843-wsop-warm-up/1095227 which earns money for the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.

CALIFORNIA

• The 2012 California State Poker Championship (May 02, ‘12 – May 20, ’12) The Commerce Casino’s 18-event event spring series gets underway this week, with the early highlights including a $340 limit Omaha eight-or-better event that begins on May 5th and a $340 H.O.R.S.E. event that starts on the 6th.

• The 2012 National Championship of Poker (Apr 04, ‘12 – May 01, ’12) The Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, CA is entering its final week, with the centerpiece of the series, the $335 no-limit hold’em championship event with the first of its five starting days beginning on the 26th.

FLORIDA

• The 2012 WPT Jacksonville (Apr 19, ‘12 – May 02, ’12) The BestBet Jacksonville’s 13-event series is approaching its conclusion, with the $5,000 WPT $5,000 no-limit hold’em main event already underway. Players looking to catch some tournament action while the main event plays on can check out the $340 no-limit hold’em with $100 bounties event that begins on April 30th, or the $230 no-limit hold’em with $50 bounties event that starts on May 1st.

NORTHEAST

• The 2012 WSOP Circuit – Harrah’s Chester (Apr 26, ‘12 – May 07, ’12) The World Series of Poker Harrah’s Chester continues with the second week of it’s 12-event series. Highlights include a $1,080 no-limit hold’em event that begins on May 4th and the $1,600 WSOP Circuit no-limit hold’em main event that starts on May 5th and plays until a champion is decided on May 7th.

• The 2012 Parx Spring Showdown (Apr 20, ’12 – May 02, ’12) The main event is already underway at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA, but there are still five more events scheduled to tak place in the coming days, including a $230 pot-limit Omaha re-entry event that begins on April 30th.

SOUTH

• The 2012 Mid-South Poker Classic (Apr 26, ‘12 – May 06, ’12) This 20-event series enters it’s second at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, with the highlights including a $240 pot-limit Omaha event with re-buys that starts on May 1st and the $500 no-limit hold’em main event that begins on May 6th.
