After opening in early April, Revel Casino in Atlantic City saw revenues of $13.4 million — placing it near the bottom of the city’s 12 properties, the Associated Press reported.
Revel Casino — a $2.4 billion resort — has a poker room with 37 tables, making it the fourth largest in the city behind the Borgata (85 tables), the Taj Mahal (75 tables) and the Tropicana (43 tables).
The project, which was at one point in danger of shutting down, took six years to complete and required an additional $1.1 billion investment in 2011.
The East Coast gambling mecca has been on a steady decline, as lawmakers in the Garden State are eying online gaming as a way to revitalize business.
A PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC study in 2011 predicted that although U.S. gaming revenue is expected to grow by five percent over the next four years, Atlantic City’s take would continue to fall because of competition in neighboring states, most notably Pennsylvania.
