End of Day 3 Chip leader Curt KohlbergAfter two and a half days of play, registration is now closed in the 2012 World Poker Tour Championship main event. A total of 152 players posted the $25,000 buy-in, building a prize pool of $3,660,500.

Eighteen will make the money — with a min-cash worth $40,266 — but all the remaining competitors have their eyes on the $1,171,358 first-place prize.

Seventeen players bought in on the final day of registration, including Phil Hellmuth, who made a late entrance and a quick exit.

After shoving all-in two hands in a row, Hellmuth shoved for a third time only to be called by Hafiz Khan’s pocket queens on a 5-4-3 rainbow board. Hellmuth was well ahead with pocket kings, but Khan caught up in a hurry by hitting a queen on the turn. The river was irrelevant, and after counting down the stacks it was confirmed that Hellmuth was eliminated.

Other notable players who bought in and busted on day 3 include Mohsin Charania, Justin Smith, Dan Smith, John Racener, Jason Mercier, Brian Hastings and Faraz Jaka.

At the end of day 3, 45 players remained with Curt Kohlberg in the lead with 918,300. Other notables with big stacks include Nick Schulman, Guillaume Darcourt and Antonio Esfandiari.
