Justin Bonomo on day 1 of $100,000 Super High RollerBellagio has long played host to some of poker’s biggest action, and this week’s $100,000 buy-in World Poker Tour Super High Roller has continued in that tradition. The event attracted 27 players, who bought in a combined 34 times.

Those who ponied up the six-figure entry included Justin Bonomo, Andrew Robl, Dan Smith, Phil Galfond, Daniel Perper, Tom Marchese, Sam Trickett, Roger Sippl, Bill Klein, Isaac Haxton, David Sands, Cary Katz, Jason Mercier, John Juanda, Brian Hastings, Justin Smith, Clemenceau Calixto, Sorel Mizzi, Jean Noel Thorel, Dan Shak, Masa Kagawa, Michael Parziale, Rob Zeps, Galen Hall, Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand Grospellier and last year’s champion Erik Seidel.

The 2011 tournament had 29 entries.

When registration closed shortly before 2 p.m. local time on Thursday, the prize pool stood at nearly $3.3 million. About $1.3 million of the purse will go to the winner, along with 600 Player of the Year points.

The chip leader after day 1 on Wednesday was Bonomo, who is currently ranked 52nd in the POY race. He could move into the top 20 with a win. Smith and Sands — ranked sixth and tenth respectively — could both move into second with a victory.

Official payout and CP POY points to be awarded:

Place Prize Money POY Points
1 $1,282,905 600
2 $822,375 500
3 $562,320 400
4 $394,740 300

Seven players who lost their initial buy-in chose to reach into their pockets for another $100,000, including Hall, Katz, Marchese, Robl, Mercier, Calisto and Negreanu.

Both Negreanu and Hall had the option to re-enter for a third time, but chose otherwise.
