2012 World Series of Poker $10,000 Main Event -- Day 1C Recap

3,418 Entrants Turn Out, Building Prize Pool Of $62 Million

Brandon AdamsDay 1C of the 2012 World Series of Poker $10,000 buy-in Main Event wrapped up early Tuesday morning at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Day 1C produced a turnout of 3,418 entrants, which is a single-day record for the Main Event. The combined number for the first two days was 3,180. Thus, 6,598 players posted the buy-in to create a $62,021,200 prize pool, where the winner will take $8.5 million.

2012 saw the fifth largest turnout in Main Event history. Overall, the attendance for the tournament dropped about 3.8 percent from 2011, but was 1.6 percent higher than 2010.

Notables near the top of the leader board from the final starting day include Brandon Adams (158,100), Steven Yea (157,175), Jake Cody (124,675), 2009 champ Joe Cada (117,375), Paul Volpe (115,875), Sorel Mizzi (115,000) and Viktor Blom (110,225), who is playing in his first World Series Main Event.

Poker legend Doyle Brunson, who won the event in 1976 and 1977, survived the day with 81,400 in chips. The 1987 and 1988 champ Johnny Chan also finished the day strong, ending play with 82,300. In addition, former champs Jamie Gold and Tom McEvoy survived the day.

Matt Affleck, who has made super deep runs in previous years, thrived to fight on with 91,300. Coming off a massive $18.3 million score in the $1 million buy-in ‘One Drop,’ poker pro Antonio Esfandiari ended day 1C with 78,925.

Some notables who hit the rail on day 1C include Jeff Williams, Steve O’Dwyer, Andrew Robl, Annette Obrestad, Lex Veldhuis, Jonathan Little, Humberto Brenes, Jonathan Duhamel, Chris Moneymaker, Andrew Badecker, George Lind, Chino Rheem and Xuan Liu.
