Kwob20 Takes Down WCOOP Limit Omaha High-Low

Another Unneeded Guarantee and Six-Figure Payday From Poker Stars

Poker Stars sure has a knack for lowballing its guarantees. As with every World Championship of Online Poker event before it, the limit Omaha eight-or-better tournament, the fifth event in the series, soared past the $300,000 guarantee to offer $476,500 to participants.

Each WCOOP tournament has also had its fair share of landmark moments or unusual happenings. (Take a look at spawng's victory in the match play event, for instance.) This event broke Joe Hachem's attendance streak. The Poker Stars champ was absent from the tournament, despite earlier claims that he would try to take part in each event this year.

As far as unusual, the path to the final table would certainly qualify. Player nutcase had been disconnected from the tournament for a good while and was slowing down his table, since it would occasionally have to wait for the site to give nutcase time to reconnect. Eventually nutcase was forced all in as the big blind and would likely be ousted in the hand so the final table could be formed. He did, in fact, lose the hand, but so did another player who had gone all in on the same hand.

On a flop of 8diamond 5diamond 4spade, phyllis called all in after a reraise from kwob20 (with nutcase forced all in preflop, as was mentioned). Phyllis showed Aclub 9diamond 9heart 3heart for a pair of nines and kwob20 flipped up Aspade Kclub 8heart 2club for a pair of eights and the best low. The turn put the 10heart on the board, and the river was the Kspade, giving kwob20 two pair, kings up, for the best high as well, to scoop the pot. The hand eliminated nutcase in tenth ($3,478.45) and phyllis in ninth ($7,147.50).

The final table was now set, but with one less player because of the double elimination the previous hand. The final eight were led by kwob20, with over $835,000. The remaining players' stacks were relatively spread out, dgang having fewer than two rounds worth of blinds. Despite being so shortstacked, dgang was not the next to go.

Pollar was the next to get iced when kwob20 made a higher two pair than his with aces and kings. The board offered no qualifying low and kwob20 scooped another pot for another elimination. Pollar would take home $10,959.50 for his finish.

NoPotForYou!'s Seinfeld-esque screen name proved erroneous as he faced Just*AA*Pair and Flippin Aces just three minutes later. Flippin Aces bowed out after the postflop aggression and NoPotForYou! was finally able to call all in on the turn. With a board showing Kclub Jspade 7diamond 7spade, Just*AA*Pair showed Kspade Kdiamond 9club 3heart for a full house and NoPotForYou! turned over Qdiamond Jclub Jheart 10diamond for a lower full house. The queen on the river sent NoPotForYou! to the rail in seventh ($15,248).

After nursing a short stack for the last two eliminations, dgang was the next to go bust. Dgang pushed the last of his chips in against kwob20 on a flop showing Jclub 10heart 4diamond. Dgang held pocket kings and a backdoor low draw and kwob20 showed two pair, jacks up. The 5heart and 9diamond on the turn and river weren't enough to keep dgang alive and he was sent packing with $19,774.75 for his sixth-place finish.

Nimag left the table in fifth ($24,539.75) when his preflop all in went up against both kwob20 and n47j25s. N47j25s ended up catching two pair to scoop the pot and eliminate nimag. Ten minutes later, Flippin Aces got the boot from kwob20 when kwob20 made aces and jacks versus his pocket queens. Flippin Aces got a $29,781.25 payday for fourth.

Just*AA*Pair was next on kwob20's hit list when kwob20 made a straight against Just*AA*Pair's flopped set of queens. Just*AA*Pair had no low to rival kwob20's 8-low and kwob20 scooped the pot to take out Just*AA*Pair in third ($40,502.50).

Kwob20 sealed the deal and took the prize in the final hand of the match. On a board showing Qspade 9spade 7heart 10spade, n47j25s called all in for his last few chips, having had just over four times the big blind at the start of the hand. N47j25s showed Qheart 5diamond 4diamond 3club for a pair of queens and no low possible on the board. Kwob20 flipped up Qdiamond 6heart 4heart 2club to have n47j25s outkicked with a 6 versus n47j25s' 5 and n72j25s was eliminated from the tournament in second for $63,851.

Kwob20 took down the tournament for $103,162.25 and the 14 karat gold WCOOP bracelet.

The final results are as follows:

kwob20 - $103,162.25
n47j25s - $63,851
Just*AA*Pair - $40,502.50
Flippin Aces - $29,781.25
nimag - $24,539.75
dgang - $19,774.75
NoPotForYou! - $15,248
pollar - $10,959.50
<phyllis - $7,147.50> (Eliminated in a double elimination hand just before the final table)
