Poker 4 CharityEverest Poker 4 Charity Event Kicks Off in Brussels October 1st |
|
On Oct. 1, several regional Belgian poker teams will challenge each other at the Grand Casino Brussels in Belgium for the sake of charity. Everest Poker 4 Charity organizers hope to achieve two goals: to benefit several needy organizations and put a positive spin on what Everest Poker 4 Charity believes is a competitive brain-sport. Currently in their country, poker is still associated with illegal backroom gambling.
Representatives from nine cities have volunteered to head teams of 10 players each. Every team will host at least one celebrity. Team captains were chosen for their motivation and poker expertise and are well known in the Flemish community. These captains represent the best players of Flanders.
Stany Crets, a promininent Belgian actor, and famous artist Herr Seele have agreed to participate.
It's anticipated that 100 players will attend. The prize pool is estimated at €5,000, and as each team represents a specific charity, they'll compete to win the most money possible for their cause. A minimum of €250 is guaranteed to any given charity.
Eleven single-table no-limit hold'em tournaments will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with the winner from each advancing to the final table at 6 p.m.
Benefitting from this event are Downsyndrom Vlaaderen, Palliatieve zorg AZ Sint Lucas (a hospital that offers its patients an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility), Veeweyde (the largest animal shelter in Belgium), Similies (a group supporting families and friends of psychiatric patients), Een hart voor Limburg (an organization committed to improving the quality of life in Limburg), The Salvation Army, Poverello Kortzrijk (a confidential social, medical, and psychological mediation service), Sensoa (an HIV clinic committed to servicing and informing the public on AIDS), and Moeders voor Moeders (directly translated, "Mothers for Mothers" plays an intermediary role between parents and social institutions, schools, and police, or assists them in crisis situations).
