‘Maratik’ Turns $0 Into $1M In PokerStars WCOOP Main EventRussian Tops Large Field After Six-Way Deal At Final Table |

The 2012 World Championship of Online Poker on PokerStars came to a close Monday when Russian low-stakes grinder “Maratik” topped the 1,825-player field in the $5,200 no-limit hold’em main event to secure the title and the $1,000,907 first-place prize.
While that in itself is impressive enough, what is truly remarkable is that he earned entry into the massive event using only PokerStars’ frequent player points.
After two days of play, Maratik secured the seven-figure score when the last of the money got in on a QJ33 board. Ryan “TheCart3r” Carter held J4, but Maratik was well ahead with pocket aces. The 4 on the river insured that the final pot of this year’s WCOOP was shipped to the Russian. Carter received $662,516 per an agreement that was made between the final six.
A number of other notables made deep runs in the main event, including Mike “munchenHB” Telker (4th – $1,000,584), Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil (8th – $136,875) and current Card Player Player of the Year second-place occupant Kyle “KJulius10” Julius (15th – $48,362).
The 2012 WCOOP played host to 65 events in total, paying out an incredible $55,522,590 in prize money over the course of the series. Notable winners of events include Jason Mercier, who won the $10,300 eight-game high roller for $253,425, Darren Elias who topped the $10,300 no-limit hold’em for $574,695, Eugene Katchalov who won the $215 stud eight-or-better, for $24,588 and Olivier “Adonis112” Busquet who was the champion of the $10,300 heads-up no-limit hold’em event.
