WSOP Expects Massive Rebuy Tournament In 2013First Rebuy Bracelet Event At Summer Festival Since 2008 |

Despite Guy Laliberté saying he wanted it back in 2013, the $1 million buy-in World Series of Poker event will take a one-year hiatus and return in 2014, Caesars Entertainment Corp. announced Monday.
This summer’s event, which took a portion of the prize pool for One Drop, Laliberté’s charity, had a sold-out field of 48. Laliberté told Card Player that while he wanted the buy-in to be massive, he didn’t want the field to have an uneven mixture of pros and those who, although incredibly wealthy, didn’t have quite the experience on the felt.
After an intense three days of play, the event was won by poker pro Antonio Esfandiari, who on paper cashed for more than $18 million. Esfandairi, like the other poker pros in the event, sought investors to come up with the seven-figure entry.
While Esfandairi’s place atop the all-time money list is likely safe until a least the summer of 2014, next year’s WSOP will include another one of Laliberté’s inventions — a rebuy tournament with a buy-in of $1,111.
The event, which will also collect some money for charity, will allow unlimited rebuys for the first two starting days. The WSOP said it thinks that the event could have more entrants than any other event on the 2013 summer schedule.
The last time the WSOP held a rebuy tournament was in 2008.
Layne Flack, Mike Matusow, Michael Banducci, Phil Galfond and Max Greenwood all won rebuy events that summer.
Greenwood’s win was in a $1,000 no-limit hold’em event that drew 879 unique players, but had more than 2,500 rebuys and add-ons.
Next year’s rebuy has been dubbed “Little One for One Drop.”
