PokerStars And 888 Get German Poker Licenses

PokerStars and 888 are among the first tranche of online gaming operators to be awarded licenses by Schleswig-Holstein to offer online casino games including poker.

A further 18 applications have applied to the Interior Ministry to receive permission to operate in the German state, the only one to allow online betting. The licenses will be valid until December 18, 2018.

The companies were audited in areas such as transparency, security, and reliability and the licenses specifically outlaw the use of poker bots.

Betfair, bwin, bet365 and Ladbrokes were also among the successful applicants

The full list of new licensees is:

• 888 Germany Ltd. (Gibraltar) with the brand “888 Poker”
• bet-at-home Internet Limited (Malta)
• Hillside (Gibraltar) Limited (Gibraltar) with the brand “bet365”
• Polco Ltd.. (Malta) with the brand “betfair”
• ElectraWorks Ltd. Kiel. (Malta) with the brand “Bwin”
• Cashpoint Malta Limited (Malta)
• Ladbrokes International PLC (Gibraltar)
• Personal Exchange International Limited (Malta) with the brand “mybet”
• Online Casino Germany GmbH (Bautzen)
• REEL Germany Limited (Malta), with the brand “pokerstars”
• Tipico Company Limited (Malta)
• Skill on Net Limited (Malta)

Germany has been under fire from the EU for its restrictive practices in gambling.
