Poker Part Of Record Year For DOJ Office In NYU.S. Attorney's Office Takes In $3 Billion In 2012: Report |

In 2012, the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan took in about $3 billion worth of funds forfeited from entities it thought had been engaged in crimes, The New York Times reported.
The figure reportedly is a record for all 93 U.S. attorney’s offices in the country.
The New York Times article referenced online poker. Preet Bharara’s office accepted a massive $731 million settlement with PokerStars in July, though the money will come in through installments. In the deal, PokerStars acquired Full Tilt Poker from the government.
In November, the office released an update on the remission process for victims of Full Tilt’s alleged fraud. It said that the Manhattan branch of the Justice Department was “evaluating” applications for a third-party firm to help with cash outs and that work would begin in January.
The major offshore poker sites were kicked out of the U.S. in April 2011.
To go along with the PokerStars settlement, the DOJ agreed to deals with Rafe Furst and Howard Lederer, two former principals of Full Tilt.
