Iowa Lottery Against Federal Online Poker PlanLotteries Could Be Strongest Opposition To Harry Reid Bill |

The CEO of the Iowa Lottery has joined in with other members of the industry to oppose the federal legalization of Internet gaming, according to the Associated Press.
Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, a Democrat, had a draft of a poker-only proposal last month, but it didn’t come to fruition before the end of 2012. Efforts are expected to resume in 2013.
Some at the state level want the federal government to stay out of the business.
Lotteries have already dabbled in online ticket sales, and some could be big players in a future Internet gaming market. The lotteries are arguably the strongest opposition to the ideas coming from Sen. Reid, who represents Nevada’s large commercial casino industry.
Iowa has looked at legalizing online poker for itself, but that plan didn’t materialize.
