The employees at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Resort in Maricopa, Arizona exceeded their goals by donating more 12,000 hours of their time in 2012 to help the community.
The casino’s HERO program is a volunteer-based system that encourages employees to make “noteworthy, visible contributions to the community by lending their time, skills, expertise and caring to dozens of volunteer projects throughout the community.”
Harrah’s Ak-Chin employees far exceeded the program’s hours in both 2010 (4,676 hours) and 2011 (9,945 hours) and boasted a 65 percent participation rate. HERO benefited notable non-profit organizations such as the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, United Way, Arizona Indian Education Association, Meals On Wheels the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
