In November, Maryland voters approved plans that would significantly beef up the state’s gambling industry. This week, the referendum was made official.
The Washington Post reported that the lawsuit filed by those trying to void the result was rejected in court on Tuesday. Supporters of the recent initiative have now officially won.
One of the entities trying to stop the 2012 legislation was Penn National Gaming, which is competing with MGM Resorts International for new business.
Under the measure, traditional table games are authorized at the state’s casinos.
At least one casino has started to train dealers, reportedly with plans to open a poker room by this summer. Maryland Live! Casino also recently became a 24-hour business.
