A bill in Hawaii aimed to legalize gambling on the Internet isn’t likely to move forward
Although not officially dead, a person at the Hawaii Senate’s office told Card Player Tuesday: “At this moment, it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.”
Hawaii is one of only two states in the nation without legalized gambling of any kind.
The Internet gaming measure was introduced on Jan. 18. A public hearing for the legislation was scheduled last month, but it was removed from the schedule shortly thereafter.
Efforts to bring gambling to Hawaii have been going on for years, but lawmakers who support the issue never have luck. Bringing it to the web right away would be a tough sell.
According to the bill, tens of thousands of Hawaiians play on offshore sites.
