Macau gambling revenue climbed by a record 25 percent in March, thanks to casino expansion in the region’s Cotai area, regarded by many to be the Las Vegas Strip of China.
According to the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, Macau revenue rose to 31.3 billion patacas ($3.9 billion) in March, besting the previous high of 28.2 billion patacas last December.
The revenue increase is mainly a result of increased hotel capacity and table games, according to Bloomberg. Galaxy Entertainment Group has already been approved for an additional 50 tables and Sands China plans to build a $2.5 billion resort called The Parisian, giving the company five casinos in the area.
China’s only legal gambling destination is the largest in the world and could bring in $40 billion in revenue this year, making its market more than six times bigger than that of Las Vegas.
