Second Phase Of Cleveland Casino In Doubt

Experts Still Mulling Over What To Do And When: Report

The second phase of casino construction in downtown Cleveland remains an uncertainty, according to reporting from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Those involved reportedly aren’t sure exactly how to develop the area — what it needs and what it could support.

“Everything happening there is good,” a real estate expert told the paper. “I’m not a naysayer. I just have questions about when the casino will be built, whether it will be built.”

Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers National Basketball Association franchise and developer of the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland (the city’s only commercial casino at the present time), spent $85 million on a piece of land that could be home to a new gambling facility. Since the old casino and the new one reportedly would be physically connected in some way, it’s not considered to be a second casino, but an addition, or “phase II.”

Cleveland is home to a strong medical tourism industry and experts reportedly are looking to create a synergy there to drum up investment in the area.

Ohio is home to just a handful of casinos after lawmakers not long ago authorized construction.

Gilbert’s casino in Cleveland is managed by Caesars Entertainment Corp.
