Maryland Live! Casino, the state’s largest casino currently, announced on Tuesday plans to hire more than 200 poker dealers (and managers) for a brand new 14,800-square-foot poker room that is scheduled to open this summer.
A total of 50 poker tables reportedly will be unveiled. The casino will have more than 120 tables games in total.
According to a press release: “The Poker Room at Maryland Live! Casino promises to be one of largest poker rooms in the Mid-Atlantic region to accommodate the overwhelming demand for the games. With more than 50 tables, a dedicated tournament floor, varied limits, and high-profile partnerships, the poker operation at Maryland Live! is expected to draw customers from the local Mid-Atlantic region and across the country.”
In November, state voters approved a plan that authorized the new games, among other gambling expansion initiatives. Casinos in the state are also allowed to stay open 24/7.
A number of highly successful poker players hail from Maryland, and they can now engage in live casino cash games. Some of the names include recent World Series of Poker champion Greg Merson, Christian Harder, Dan Cates and Anthony Gregg.
Maryland’s three casinos brought in $378 million during 2012.
Two new casinos, one in downtown Baltimore and one in Prince George’s County, are scheduled to soon be built, giving the state an increased gambling presence.
