Maryland Live! Casino’s two-story 14,800 square-foot poker room, one of the biggest in the Mid-Atlantic, is set to open Wednesday, August 28 just in time for Labor Day weekend. The room will house 52 tables, raising the casino’s total table game count to 174. The Las Vegas style poker room will feature a variety of limits, high-profile tournaments and games.
Maryland Live! is located in Hanover, which is only about an hour drive from Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
In April Card Player took a look at the state of poker in Maryland. At the time, only one casino had opened a poker room, Maryland Live! will mark the second.
“The addition of Poker only enhances the excitement that 24-hour gaming and live table games have created at Maryland Live! Casino,” said Robert J. Norton, President and General Manager. “Now we have a complete range of entertainment offerings for our guests that includes incredible dining options from nationally-recognized brands, such as The Cheesecake Factory; Bobby’s Burger Palace, from chef Bobby Flay; Phillips Seafood, and the top Zagat-rated steakhouse, The Prime Rib. Add in a live show at Rams Head Center Stage and you can enjoy a world-class gaming and entertainment experience right here in Maryland.”
Aside from the entertainment aspect it will also spike a labor need. The casino is currently hiring more than 250 poker dealers and room personnel, bringing the total employee count to around 2,800. Maryland Live! is currently one of the largest employers in the state.
In December, Maryland residents voted to expand table games offerings.
