Alon RazSeventy-three players returned but only 44 remained when chips were bagged for the night and it was Irsael’s Alon Raz who held the chiplead with 1,203,000 at the end of Day 3 in the Latin Series of Poker Millions.

Raz will be trailed by Andreas Parias with 804,000, Guillermo Echevvaria with 722,000 and Carter Gill with 709,000 when Day 4 begins at 2 pm EST March 13.

Players played just four levels on Day 3 and during that short time the likes of Felipe Velasquez, Mayu Roca, Claudio Piedra and Winning Poker Network CEO Phil Nagy all made their exits.

Velasquez was eliminated about halfway through the day when he got into a pot with Team PokerStars pro Jose “Nacho” Barbero. Barbero limped from under the gun +1, Carlos Lam followed from the hijack and Gill did the same from the cutoff. From the small blind Velasquez shoved all in for his last 102,500 and Barbero snap called. The other players got out of the way and the hands were tabled. Barbero’s pocket Queens would hold against Velasquez’s ADiamond SuitQSpade Suit when he missed all possible outs as the board ran out 10Club Suit10Diamond Suit4Heart SuitJHeart Suit3Diamond Suit.

Team BetCRIS pros Bolivar Palacios, Engelberth Varela and Felipe Montenegro will return for Day 4 as will Roman Valerstein, Gabriel Diaz, Alberto Cartin and Oscar Ortiz.

Palacios earned a double up about halfway through the day to stay alive. With the board reading 9Spade Suit5Diamond Suit4Diamond Suit9Diamond SuitASpade Suit Rafael Pardo bet large enough to put Palcios all-in and Palacios called with AHeart SuitQSpade Suit to double up against Pardo’s 8Spade Suit7Spade Suit.

Bolivar PalaciosValerstein was also nearing a short stack when he won a large pot to chip up enough to last another day. With the board reading 7Club Suit5Diamond Suit4Club Suit the player under the gun +1 checked his option and Valerstein responded with a bet of 11,000. Under the gun +1 called and both players checked again after the 8Spade Suit opened on the turn. The river was the 7Spade Suit and under the gun +1 bet 16,000. Valerstein raised to 48,000 and it was enough to make his opponent fold.

Just as play was winding down for the day with only 46 players left Varela doubled on what would have been the last hand of the night had his opponent’s Ace-Queen overtaken his pocket Aces. The Team BetCRIS pro’s Aces held up and he doubled to about 260,000 while play continued on until two more eliminations were in the books.
