Russian President Vladimir PutinDespite the fact that the annexation of Crimea from the Ukraine has not yet been completely settled, Russian officials are reportedly moving quickly to establish the peninsula as a future gambling hub featuring hotels and casinos.

According to Bloomberg, Russia’s ministers of economy, finance and regional development have a few weeks to map out a detailed proposal for the area in an effort to make Crimea less dependent on government funds. The region would then be given tax breaks to encourage foreign and local casino operators to put down roots.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Barack Obama has condemned the peninsula for an “illegal” vote to secede from the Ukraine and has announced sanctions for Russia.

Russia has completely banned all gambling in the country, except for in four designated areas.
