Nearly all eyes of the poker world were focused directly on the Bellagio yesterday, where Joe Hachem won his first World Poker Tour event and the more than $2.1 million that came with it.
But at 2 p.m. on the same day, on the other side of the country, the final table of the $5,000 World Series of Poker circuit event at Harrah's Atlantic City also took place.
The remaining nine players battled for a top prize of $386,096. The event attracted 237 players and generated a prize pool of $1,161,300. The last nine players sat down at the final table with the following chip counts:
The total lifetime winnings for all these players combined ($262,922) didn't even match the amount of the top prize. Chan had the best history on the tournament trail, winning $193,219 in his lifetime in major tourneys. Rossetti won $38,752 in his life, but none since 2004, and both Bernstein and Goldin had less than $20,000 in winnings each. None of the players had a major tournament win.
Rossetti ended up coming from behind and winning the tournament, despite the fact that Gomez held about half the chips in play when he sat down. Gomez finished second. Racener wound up in third place, Chan in fourth, Goldin in fifth, Bernstein sixth, Lin, seventh, Gliem, eighth and Ty was the first player knocked off the final table and finished in ninth.
The payouts were as follows: Ninth, $23,006, eighth place, $34,509, seventh, $46,012, sixth, $57,515, fifth, $69,018, fourth, $80,521, third, $103,527, second, $202,453, and first $386,096.
