A total of 131 players posted the buy-in in the inaugural running of the World Series of Poker $25,000 mixed-max no-limit hold’em event. Starting with nine-handed tables on day one and then moving on to six-handed play on day 2, now only 16 players remain to battle it out for the first open bracelet of 2014 WSOP and the first-pace prize of $871,148.
John Juanda was eliminated on the bubble when he got his last chips in with the Q6 from the small blind after it folded to him, only to be called by Robert Tepper’s AQ. Juanda failed to come from behind, hitting the rail as the last player outside of the money. The remaining 16 players are all guaranteed at least a $54,945 payday.
The final 16 will return at 2:00 PM on Thursday for four-handed play, which will continue until the final four players have been set. They will bag up their chips for the night and return on Friday to play out the rest of the tournament in heads-up matches.
The chip leader heading into day 3 is Al Decarolis with 1,261,000. Close on his heels are JC Tran, Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mo. Other notables remaining include Calvin Anderson, Matt Gianetti, Darren Elias, Aaron Jones, Richard Lyndaker, Nick Schulman and Noah Schwartz.
Day 2 started with 60 players, and 44 of them hit the rail throughout the day, including Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Eugene Katchalov and Brian Rast.
