The 2014 World Series of Poker ladies no-limit hold’em event ran right up against the inaugural monster stack event which clearly hurt the overall field size. Just 793 players put up the $1,000 buy-in to create a prize pool of $713,700.
After three days of action, it was Los Gatos, California’s Haixia Zhang who finished with all of the chips, earning her first gold bracelet and the $153,470 first-place prize.
“I’m in complete awe,” said Zhang. “It’s unreal. I’m just glad to be here, let alone win it. Everybody that made the last few tables, I totally respected their play. I thought they all played really solid.”
Also at the final with Zhang was Elizabeth Montizanti (4th) and Pat Landis (5th), Daniel Negreanu’s personal assistant. Other notables who made a deep run in the event included Xuan Liu (11th), Melanie Weisner (26th), Dee Dozier (74th) and Christina Lindley (80th).
