Come November, Colorado voters will decide whether to allow a casino in the Denver Metro area, according to 9news.com.
The ballot question centers on Amendment 68, which would allow the Arapahoe Park Racetrack, among other such facilities in the state, to start offering slots and table games, according to a local CBS affiliate. In other words, Las Vegas-style gambling expansion.
Back in July, the state said there were enough signatures to put the issue on the ballot.
According to ballotpedia.org, the measure would establish a kindergarten through twelfth grade education fund to provide additional revenue to address local educational needs.
According to the state gaming regulators, there are currently 40 casinos in the state of Colorado including: two tribal casinos, seven casinos in Central City, 17 casinos in Black Hawk, and 14 casinos in Cripple Creek. As mentioned, Colorado also has pari-mutuel facilities.
A Colorado state gambling bill that passed in 1991 permitted casinos to operate legally in three historic gold mining towns: Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek.
