MGM Resorts International, one of the largest casino firms in the world, has filed a federal trademark lawsuit against a small Nevada company looking to get into the medical marijuana business in the Silver State.

The casino operator is suing M Life Inc. over its “M’Life Wellness” brand.

MGM uses the name “M life” for its customer rewards program at 15 of its casinos.

A cease-and-desist letter was sent by MGM to M Life Inc., but the latter didn’t stop pursuing what the former has a big issue with. So, a lawsuit was filed Sept. 17.

Basically, MGM doesn’t wanted to be associated with the medical marijuana industry because it thinks it will hurt its brand. The industry is still prohibited under federal law, though individual states have authorized the business. Nevada gaming regulators have said that casinos can’t dabble in the pot business because of this legal discrepancy.
