Study Sheds Light On Health Of Poker PlayersSurvey By London-Based Gambling Site Gives Profile Of UK Player |

Poker players are arguably the healthiest out of all casino games players, but they probably just need to cut back on the drinking a bit.
That’s what a study in the U.K. conducted by London-based jackpot.co.uk showed.
Before we get into the reasons why poker players are pretty healthy compared to other casino patrons, it is worth noting that the study found that roughly 60 percent of those who said poker was their preferred casino game are male, while 40 percent are female. That split was the median in the data. Also, the average age for a poker player was 38, lowest among all the casino games.
Here’s a quick bit on the study’s methodology:
On the Jackpot.co.uk website and its associated network of gaming sites, we ran a questionnaire asking casino players a series of health-related questions. Out of the 3,000 respondents, 869 were removed due to respondent error or incomplete responses. The remaining 2,131 clean responses were divided into 9 categories based on the casino game type the respondent played most often. We then tabulated all health and casino activity under each corresponding casino game.
This is what the survey found:
Poker players have the second lowest BMI, trailing only pai gow players. (Someone’s body mass index is calculated by dividing their weight by their height in meters squared.)
Poker players are also big drinkers, regardless of gender.
Though, poker players smoke relatively little and exercise more often. That’s some pretty good news. The data showed that with the exception of poker and ‘other’, U.K. casino players are nearly four percent more likely to smoke than the average U.K. citizen.
So there you have it. U.K. poker players are skinny, perhaps thanks to exercising more regularly, and don’t smoke that much. The alcohol consumption might need to be reduced a bit, though.
