California lawmakers and gaming interests can’t get on the same page with regards to online poker in the Golden State. But one of the few gambling-related things everyone appears OK with is the state lottery, which recently reported record revenues of $5 billion.

According to the Associated Press, it was the first time lotto sales eclipsed the $5-billion mark in California, which has the Mega Millions and the Powerball, for a single year.

In February, a California lotto player hit the Powerball for $425 million.

The $5 billion in lottery sales is actually just under what the entire web gaming industry in the United States is predicted to be in or around the year 2020.

Given the huge revenues of lotteries compared to online poker, it is arguably little surprise the former has already been legalized and the latter is still waiting on the OK.

California is expected to finally legalize online poker, a game of chance, next year.
