Kid Poker is having a hell of a couple months.

Yesterday, Daniel Negreanu again came close to winning a World Poker Tour event for the second time since December when he became the runner-up at the World Poker Open at the Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. Bryan Sumner won that tournament.

In December, he took third at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, winning $592,000. Yesterday's second-place finish earned Negreanu another $502,691.

CardPlayer.com was there for both the events, providing live updates and tournament reports. Please click here for all the live updates from the final table of the World Poker Open, and click here for a story about the final table.

With his finish in Mississippi, Negreanu is now right in the thick of Card Player's Player of the Year race with 1,140 points, 300 points away from being in a four-way tie for first. Click here for the complete standings.

The World Poker Open attracted 294 players. Sumner received $913,986 for his win. This is the first time the top prize at a WPT event dipped below $1 million since last year's World Poker Open event.

The final table of yesterday's event included JC Tran, Kido Pham, Young Chou, Gary Kainer, Negreanu, and Sumner. Out of all of the players, Sumner was the only one who had never cashed in a major.
