The man who allegedly robbed Las Vegas’ Bellagio casino in July has been declared psychologically unfit to stand trial, according to the AP. Scott Alan Carmitchel, who is from Kansas, appeared in court this summer wrapped in a blanket and wearing a spit mask.
He had to be restrained for a mugshot and wouldn’t say his own name.
The judge at the time said “he might have mental problems.”
Carmitchel, 34, also refused to open his eyes or acknowledge his whereabouts during the court appearance on federal charges of interference with commerce.
Police said Carmitchel spent some of the $43,500 in cash he obtained from the Strip casino on sex workers and the rest shopping. He also allegedly robbed a bank for a smaller amount.
The Bellagio has seemingly been a popular place to rob in recent years. In 2011, the son of a Las Vegas Municipal Court judge was arrested for stealing $1.5 million worth of chips from the casino.
