The 12th-annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure kicks off on Tuesday, January 6th at the Atlantis Resort & Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, with 28 events taking place over the nine-day festival that runs through the 14th.

Over the past eleven years the PCA has consistently been one of the biggest events on the tournament circuit every year, always making a huge impact on the Card Player Player of the Year race. The winner has finished inside the top twenty in the POY standings six out of the past seven years, with prior champions including the likes of Gus Hansen (2004), Ryan Daut (2007), Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (2008) and Galen Hall (2011).

The PCA awarded six separate seven-figure paydays in 2013. Fabian Quoss topped a field of 56 entries in the $100,000 no-limit hold’em super high roller to win $1,629,940 while Dan Shak, who finished runner-up, earned $1,178,980. The $25,000 high roller drew 247 entries to create a prize pool with over $6 million to award. Eventual champion of that event Jake Schindler earned $1,192,624 for his first major live title.

Dominik PankaThe top three finishers in the $10,300 main event all earned seven-figure paydays, with Dominik Panka taking home $1,423,096 for topping the 1,031 player field while runner up Mike McDonald earned $1,064,865 and third-place finisher Isaac Baron was awarded $1,207,599 as dictated by a deal the three made after making it to three-handed play.

During this year’s nine-day run a total of 28 separate tournaments will take place, with buy-ins ranging from as low as $600 to as high as the $100,000 super high roller no-limit hold’em event which gets underway Sunday, Jan. 6th at noon local time.

Of course, the true centerpiece of the entire series is the $10,300 no-limit hold’em main event that runs from Jan. 8th – 14th. Other notable events include a $25,500 no-limit hold’em high roller that runs from the 12th through the 14th and a $10,300 six-handed turbo that gives players a last shot at a big score on the festival’s closing day, January 14th.
