After a few months of positive gains, the gambling revenue for Maryland’s five licensed casinos saw a small dip in the month of December, dropping from $90.2 million to $85.6 million.
The biggest winner was Maryland Live!, who took in $50.2 million, although that represented an overall decline of 6.6 percent from November and 4.4 percent from the previous year.
The Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, which has only been open since late August, took in $22.9 million. That was a 2 percent drop from November, but most importantly, it was about $10 million less than a pair of state-funded consulting firms projected for the property in 2013.
Not including the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, the other four Maryland casinos saw a total loss of 3.6 percent from December of 2013.
In 2013, Maryland’s gambling market produced $377.81 million in gross gaming revenue, with $218.2 million going to the state in tax revenue. Those numbers are sure to increase substantially in 2014’s report due to the addition of two new casinos and table games.
A sixth casino property, the MGM National Harbor, is schedule to open in Prince George’s County in 2016.
